Kana Kikuchi, an Art Director from BBDO Japan will represent Japan at the Young Lotus Workshop held by Adfest in March in Pitaya, Thailand. The workshop aims to encourage and stimulate the young talents of the region.
Her team won in a competition against 145 teams from agencies all over Japan, including representatives from Dentsu, Hakuhodo, ADK, and AKQA. The competition leading up to the selection consisted of two rounds. The first round was a brief about alleviating food loss. The second round was based on a gender equality brief—, especially regarding household chores. In Japan, this issue is quite severe: compared to working women spending an average of three hours per day, men only spend 40 min per day.
She said that her team scrapped roughly around a hundred ideas until they settled on a solution. She’s excited because her team went after this award for the past three years and they finally got it this year. You know what they say, — thirds time the charm!
